8th Pay Commission: Is the salary of government employees going to increase by 3 times?

Government employees and pensioners have been eagerly waiting for the eighth pay commission for almost a year. The news may come as a relief amid the delay in the formation of the commission and the uncertainty surrounding it so far. The central government has made it clear that it is seriously discussing the state government’s eighth pay commission and a decision on the pay commission panel is likely to be taken soon. The seventh pay commission is ending this year. On January 16, 2025, the Central Government gave its approval to the 8th Pay Commission’s constitution. This commission will suggest adjustments to employee pensions, benefits, and pay. Salary will be increased on the basis of recommendation. But the question arises how much will be the salary of a peon to an IAS officer after the implementation of the 8th Pay Commission? Eighth Pay Commission will determine fitment factor. In the 8th Pay Commission, the fitment factor will determine the pay. It is a method of increasing the existing salary which the commission uses. In the Seventh Pay Commission, it was 2.57 which increased the minimum pay from Rs 7000 to Rs 18,000. The eighth commission’s fitting factor could now be 2.86. However, it depends on the commission’s assessment of the fitting factor. Employee group NCJCM requested 2.86 or higher. But according to specialists, it might be between the range of 1.92 and 2.86. What will the wage be in the event that the eighth pay commission goes into effect? If we estimate the salary according to the fitment factor of 2.86, it could be like this. Peon means Level One. Current salary is 18,000. The new salary may be Rs 51,480. Pension will be increased from 9000 to 25,740. Next, if we talk about the level two employee salary, the current salary is ₹19,900. The new salary may increase to ₹56,914. If we talk about level six i.e. middle level employees, their salary is currently ₹35,400. After the new pay hike, it may be ₹11244. IAS IPS i.e. Level 10 officers salary is currently ₹56100 and the new salary can be ₹16446. However, this is only an estimate because this salary is if we talk about basic salary. Apart from this, if there are IAS IPS officers, their salary is made by incorporating many factors. Salary will be increased based on the recommendation of the commission. Along with this, we also inform you that a delegation of Government Employees National Confederation i.e. GEAC, apex body of Indian Labor Union i.e. BAMS met Union Minister Jitendra Singh last month. During this time, the delay in the implementation of the 8th Pay Commission and the concerns of government employees were discussed. A number of issues were raised by the delegation in its meeting with Union Minister of State Jitendra Singh on 4 August.
